Day 15 - Riga

Dear all,

I woke up way early, about 6h30.

I waited untill Katre woke up, around 10h30 and we went for breakfast. We had breakfast at a place called La Fazenda. They have a strawbery ice-cream cocktail that is one of the best drinks I have ever had!

We came back home to pack our things I helped her out to take garbage out.

Katre, thank you once again to invite me into your place. It was very nice that I could come to Riga by bicycle. See you in Tallin, maybe!

When I left her place, I phoned Maija, another couchsurfer from Riga, who told me also that could host me in Riga. I asked which were her plans and due to the fact that was a sunny day, she was thinking about going to Jurmala, the seaside near Riga. I had no idea what was the distance, but I would be more than happy to meet her and cycle to Jurmala.

Jurmala is the richest place in Riga, where the houses looks very very nice and the cyclepath there is being used by a lot of people, in spite of the distance.

After a meal there, we have cycled along the sea. Water was rather warm, but because of chilly wind, there were about 5 souls in the water.

In Jurmala there is a quite big park, and in the middle of it a kind of tower that you can climg 202 steps and be above the trees and check out the beauty of this place!

It was time to ruturn back to Riga.

Thank you so much for your company during this day in Riga. Anytime in Lisbon, let me know. I will be more than happy to host you and show you around!

I headed to the centre then. Riga is really a nice city, with very nice parks near the old town and very good atmosphere.

I settled with Marta to meet in one of the parks around 19h. We went home (6th floor without lift - 2 trips, one for the bags and one for the bike!), she has cooked a very nice meal and we were sharing our traveling experiences.

Nice trip she has done by bicycle, starting with similar stresses as I had to take her bike from Scotland to Amsterdam and cycle from there till Riga. 1900 km is less than a month, great!

Thank you for inviting me to stay at your place Marta! I will be waiting your visit by hitch-hiking in Potugal!

It is impressive how hitch-hike is such a common thing for people in here! It is really not that common in Portugal, but I am willing to try it sooner or later. You know the feeling, to have that kind of list of things you wanna do before you die!

Well, despite of being a day-off from cycling, I made quite a few kilometers. So, here you have the summary of the day:

  • Daily distance: 53,92 km
  • Daily time: 3h34m17s
  • Average speed: 15,41 km/h
  • Maximum speed: 32 km/h

  • Total traveled so far: 903,78 km
  • Total time cycling: 51h34m26s

And that is all for now folks!

Best,

Peter
